Vaiśampāyana said: When the daughter heard these words of her parents, who were extremely sorrowful, she was overcome with grief and spoke to them.

वैशम्पायन ने कहा: जब बेटी ने अपने माता-पिता के ये शब्द सुने, जो अत्यंत दुखी थे, तो वह दुःख से उबर गई और उनसे बोली।

पुत्र तो अपना ही होता है। पत्नी किसी की मित्र होती है. बेटी ही दुख का कारण है. दुख के उस कारण से स्वयं को बचाएं। मुझे धर्म के मार्ग पर स्थापित करो।

O father! Without you, I will be an unprotected and wretched girl, going everywhere and whenever, always miserable.

हे पिता! तुम्हारे बिना, मैं एक असुरक्षित और मनहूस लड़की बन कर रहूंगी, हर जगह और जब भी जाऊंगी, हमेशा दुखी रहूंगी।

हे द्विजों में श्रेष्ठ! यदि तुम मुझे त्याग कर वहां चले जाओगे तो मुझ पर बहुत अत्याचार होगा। अत: मुझ पर कृपा करें।

हे अच्छे पिता! मुझे त्याग दो, जिसे अंततः त्याग दिया जाना है। मेरे लिये, धर्म के लिये और अपने वंश के लिये अपने आप को बचा लो।

What can be more painful to us than you ascending to heaven and our roaming like dogs, begging food from others?

आपके स्वर्ग सिधारने और कुत्तों की तरह घूमने, दूसरों से भोजन माँगने से बढ़कर हमारे लिए और क्या कष्टदायक हो सकता है?

परन्तु यदि तुम अपने बन्धु-बान्धवों सहित इस विपत्ति से बच जाओगे और स्वस्थ हो जाओगे तो मैं अमर लोक में बहुत सुखी रहूँगा।”
